Which Metal Roofing System Fits Your Home?
Most DFW houses end up with one of three: standing seam for a modern or farmhouse look, metal shake or shingle for an HOA street, and metal tile for Spanish and Mediterranean elevations. Shops, barns and barndominiums usually take R-panel. The cards give the short version; each one links to a full page.
Standing Seam Metal Roofing
Long vertical panels locked at raised seams over concealed clips. Our standard is 24-gauge Galvalume steel with a Kynar 500 (PVDF) finish, with 26-gauge SMP as the budget tier, plus ClickLock aluminum and Universal 16-inch steel systems. Clean, linear look. Best for primary homes, low-slope porches and anyone planning solar.
Metal Shake Roofing
Panels embossed to read as hand-split cedar: EDCO ArrowLine and Generations HD in PVDF-finished steel, Classic Country Manor Shake in aluminum. Interlocking edges, no exposed screws. Best for HOA neighborhoods and homes where cedar would have been the choice, without the rot or the fire risk.
Metal Shingle and Slate
Classic Oxford Shingle and Slate Rock Oxford give a low-profile slate look in interlocking aluminum; Rustic Shingle adds wood-grain texture and a four-way interlock. Light, at roughly 40 pounds per 100 square feet. Best for traditional, Tudor and French-style homes that need to match the street.
Metal Tile Roofing
Two routes to a barrel-tile roof: Classic Grandetile, an aluminum Spanish tile at about 75 pounds per square, and stone-coated steel tile with a granule surface that hides hail marks. Both weigh a fraction of clay or concrete. Best for Spanish, Mediterranean and Tuscan elevations in Frisco, Plano and Las Colinas.
Corrugated and R-Panel Roofing
Exposed-fastener steel in 26 or 24 gauge: classic corrugated waves, R-panel trapezoids and PBR for purlin framing, in SMP or PVDF finishes. The value end of metal roofing. Best for barns, shops, porches, carports and barndominiums on unrestricted lots.
Copper Roofing
Soldered flat-seam or standing seam copper that weathers from bright penny to brown and, over decades, green. The most distinctive metal we work with. Best for bay window roofs, turrets, dormers and entry accents on estate homes, or a full roof for owners thinking a century ahead.
Zinc Roofing
Architectural zinc in standing seam or flat-lock panels, with a matte gray patina that forms on its own and covers minor scratches over time. Best for modern and custom homes in Highland Park, University Park, Southlake and Westlake where the architect calls for it.
Lifetime Roofing
Not a product but a standard: Class 4 steel, a PVDF finish, concealed clips and high-temperature underlayment, backed by our transferable lifetime workmanship warranty. Read it for the 50-year math on one metal roof versus three shingle roofs.
Commercial and Barndominium
Mechanically seamed standing seam for low-slope buildings, R-panel for shops, re-roofs over existing metal, and wall panels for storefronts. Best for owners, builders and property managers who need a submittal package as well as a price.
Metal Wall Panels
The same metal turned vertical: aluminum composite panels, corrugated wall panels and our own AMP Wave, 7.2 Rib and PBR profiles. Many roof projects add a matching wall, fascia or wainscot; the wall panel hub has the spec sheets.

How Do You Choose Between Metal Roofing Systems in DFW?
Four questions settle it for most homeowners: hail, HOA, slope and budget. Answer them in that order and the shortlist usually writes itself.
Hail: which systems hide dents best?
Start here, because Texas has led the nation in major hail events for 11 straight years (NICB/Verisk). Every family above has products tested to UL 2218 Class 4, the rating TDI recognizes for insurer credits. Class 4 means a 2-inch steel ball dropped from 20 feet caused no crack or rupture; it does not mean no dents. Textured profiles hide small marks: stone-coated tile, embossed shake and wood-grain shingles show less than a flat standing seam pan, and 24-gauge steel shows less than 26. Ask your carrier about cosmetic-damage exclusions before you decide, and ask us for the rating letter on the exact product. Our Class 4 insurance discount guide explains what Texas carriers actually give.
HOA: which systems clear architectural review?
Texas Property Code Section 202.011 stops an HOA from banning wind- and hail-resistant or energy-saving shingles that resemble the subdivision’s roofing and match its look, so metal shake, metal shingle and tile-look systems have the clearest path. Standing seam is not named in the statute; committees in Frisco, Plano and McKinney often approve it anyway with samples and a color matched to the street. We build the submittal either way. See our HOA approval guide for what committees ask.
Slope: what will your roof pitch allow?
Snap-lock standing seam needs about 3:12 of pitch. Mechanically seamed panels go down to about 1/2:12 with in-seam sealant, which is why porches, patio covers and commercial roofs get them. Shake, shingle and tile systems typically want 3:12 or steeper per their manufacturers, and exposed-fastener panels sit in between depending on lap sealant. When one house has a steep main roof and a flat porch tie-in, we mix systems and match the color.
Budget: what does each system cost?
Our whole-house 24-gauge Kynar standing seam rate is $15 per square foot of roof surface, and porches and small additions run $25 per square foot, as of October 2026. Shake, shingle and tile systems are quoted per project from current manufacturer pricing, and exposed-fastener panels come in below standing seam. Tear-off adds $1.25 per square foot. Run your numbers in our metal roof cost calculator, then read the 30-year cost math against shingles.
Why Are Our Panels Fabricated in Forney?
Because a roof made nearby fits better and arrives faster. Our shop at 107 Industrial Dr in Forney holds the roll formers, brakes and shears that turn painted coil into standing seam panels, ridge caps, valleys, drip edge and every custom flashing a roof needs. Standing seam panels are formed in the shop or on site in your driveway, to the length of your slope, so nothing is end-lapped or bent in shipping.
Shake, shingle and tile panels come from their manufacturers. The trim that makes them watertight is still ours, bent by the same crew that builds our custom sheet metal for coping, flashing and box gutters. Our team brings 26+ years of metal roofing experience to every job. From Forney we cover Dallas, Tarrant, Collin, Denton, Rockwall, Kaufman, Ellis, Johnson, Parker, Wise and Hunt counties; see our service areas.
What Comes With Every System We Install?
The same hidden layers and paperwork, whichever panel you choose, because the weakest layer sets the life of the roof.
- High-temperature synthetic underlayment rated 240 F or higher, with self-adhered high-temp membrane at eaves, valleys and penetrations.
- Vented ridge where the profile allows it, balanced with intake at the soffits.
- Flashing, pipe boots and skylight curbs fabricated for the specific panel, never generic parts forced to fit.
- Class 4 documentation and an installation certificate for your insurer, and the HOA package when you need one.
- Our lifetime workmanship warranty, transferable to the next owner, on top of the manufacturer’s finish and substrate coverage.
- A written estimate with the Texas three-day cancellation notice, and never a waived deductible. Fully Insured.

Homeowner Reviews
What Dallas-Fort Worth Homeowners Say About Architectural Metal Panels
Metal Roofing System Questions From DFW Homeowners
What is the best metal roofing system for Dallas-Fort Worth hail?
Any system with a UL 2218 Class 4 listing on the exact product, in 24-gauge steel where the profile allows. Textured profiles such as stone-coated tile, metal shake and wood-grain shingles hide small dents better than flat standing seam pans. No metal roof is dent-free in giant hail.
Which metal roof will my HOA approve?
Metal shake, metal shingle and tile-look systems fit Texas Property Code Section 202.011 most clearly, because they resemble the shingles or tile already on the street. Standing seam needs architectural review; we prepare the samples, color match and rating documents for either path.
How much does a metal roof cost in Dallas-Fort Worth?
Our 24-gauge Kynar standing seam rate is $15 per square foot of roof surface as of October 2026, with porches at $25. National 2026 guides put metal shingles at roughly $10.50-$14 per square foot, stone-coated tile near $12.50 and exposed-fastener panels at $5.50-$11.50 in Texas.
Should I choose steel or aluminum?
Steel for most inland DFW roofs: Galvalume steel is stiffer, dents less and costs less, and painted AZ50 substrate commonly carries a 50-year warranty. Aluminum cannot rust and weighs less, which is why Classic’s shingle, shake and tile systems and ClickLock standing seam use it.
Can a metal roof go over my existing shingles?
Some systems are approved over one flat layer where local code allows it, but on most DFW homes we recommend a tear-off so we can replace soft decking and install high-temperature underlayment. Our guide to metal roofs over shingles in Texas covers the code and cost trade-offs.
Do you make the panels yourselves?
Standing seam panels and all trim, yes, in our Forney shop or on site with a portable roll former. Shake, shingle and tile panels are manufactured systems from EDCO, Classic Metal Roofing Systems and stone-coated steel makers that we install.
Which system is best for solar panels?
Standing seam. Clamps grip the seams with set screws, so the array mounts without a single hole through the roof, and a panel that typically lasts 40 to 70 years will not need replacing under the array.
How long do these metal roofing systems last?
Professionally installed metal roofs typically last 40 to 70 years in Texas, against about 15 to 20 for asphalt shingles in DFW heat and hail. Copper and zinc can go longer. Finish warranties run 30 to 40 years on most PVDF systems, and our workmanship warranty lasts as long as you own the home.
