12-Inch Concealed-Fastener Panel

AMP Wave 12-3 Metal Wall Panel: Narrow Concealed-Fastener Cladding for North Texas

Three waves, 12 inches of coverage, no visible screws. The AMP Wave 12-3 metal wall panel is the narrow sibling of our Wave 16-4, built for facades and accent walls where a finer rhythm looks right. Architectural Metal Panels forms it in Forney and installs it on commercial buildings and modern homes throughout North Texas.

Why Choose a 12-Inch Panel?

Because a narrower module gives a wall more lines per foot, hides minor substrate waviness better and scales down to small elevations, soffits and column wraps without looking coarse. On a two-story storefront or a 20-foot accent wall, three waves per foot read as a deliberate texture rather than a sheet of metal.

The trade-off is labor. A 12-inch panel takes a third more panels and seams to cover the same wall as a 16-inch panel, so the installed cost per square foot typically runs a little higher. For large plain walls, the Wave 16-4 is usually the better value.

Where the Wave 12-3 Fits in Dallas-Fort Worth

On the parts of a building people stand close to. Entry surrounds, parapet bands, soffits, column wraps and the feature wall behind a sign are its natural home; whole-building cladding works too on smaller structures.

  • Commercial: restaurant and retail facades in Rockwall and Mesquite, medical office entries, bank drive-through canopies, school and church accent walls.
  • Residential: modern homes and barndominiums where the owner wants metal on a gable, a porch ceiling or a two-tone elevation without exposed screws.
  • Agricultural and light industrial: the office front on a shop or warehouse, with a plainer exposed-fastener panel on the rest of the building.

How Is the Wave 12-3 Installed?

The same way as the 16-4: weather barrier, furring, concealed-leg fastening and shop-formed trims, with extra attention to layout because the narrow module makes alignment errors easier to see.

Substrate and furring

Over sheathed stud walls, steel girts or masonry we set hat channel or Z-furring to create a flat, drained plane. On soffits and ceilings the furring hangs from the framing and the panels run perpendicular to it.

Layout

We start from the most visible corner, keep full panels at eye level and push any cut panel to an inside corner. Horizontal runs get a chalk line every few courses so the waves stay level across the elevation.

Trims and flashings

Base, corner, jamb, head, J-channel and reveal trims come from our custom sheet metal shop, formed from the same coil so the color matches. Transitions to a roof use metal flashing cut for the profile.

Texas Performance: Hail, Sun and Movement

A wall panel sees hail at a shallow angle, and three stiff waves per foot make the Wave 12-3 one of the stiffer panels we install per inch of width. Cosmetic dings on a 24-gauge wall are rare and almost never functional.

Heat is the harder test. DFW averages about 20 days a year at or above 100 F, and the summer UV index sits at 9 to 10. The Kynar 500 finish holds its color; SMP paint can visibly fade within a decade on dark colors, which is why we reserve it for light colors on budget work.

Between a January freeze and an August afternoon, a 30-foot steel panel grows and shrinks by a noticeable fraction of an inch. The concealed lock lets each panel move, and the short 12-inch module means less width to distort. Oil canning, the waviness you see on flat panels, is rarely an issue on a profile with this little flat surface.

Wave 12-3 vs Wave 16-4 vs PBR Wall Panel

If the wall is big and plain, the Wave 16-4 covers it faster at lower labor cost. If you want detail at close range, the 12-3 wins. If you want a flat, smooth face with a wainscot look, the PBR Wall Panel is the right profile.

  • Wave 16-4: 16-inch coverage, four waves, same depth and finish; the economical choice for large elevations.
  • Wave 12-3: 12-inch coverage, three waves; finer texture, best on accents, soffits and small facades.
  • PBR Wall Panel: semi-concealed fasteners in recessed channels, flat appearance, typically 36-inch coverage.

What Dallas-Fort Worth Homeowners Say About Architectural Metal Panels

Wave 12-3 Questions

Is the Wave 12-3 more expensive than the Wave 16-4?

Per square foot installed, typically a little more, because it takes more panels and seams to cover the same area. Material cost per square foot is similar; the difference is labor. On accent areas the difference is small in dollars.

Can the Wave 12-3 be used on a soffit or porch ceiling?

Yes. It is a common soffit and canopy panel. We hang furring from the framing, run the panels perpendicular to it and vent the soffit where the design calls for it.

What colors are available for the Wave 12-3?

The standard Kynar 500 color chart with cool-roof reflective pigments; we send the chart with your quote and can supply physical samples. Custom colors are possible with longer lead time and minimum quantities.

Can the panels be installed over existing brick or stucco?

Usually. We anchor furring to the masonry, add a weather barrier if the wall needs one, and hang the panels on the furring. A quick site visit confirms the wall is sound and plumb enough.

Do I need an engineer for a Wave 12-3 wall?

For most homes and small commercial jobs, no. On larger commercial projects a permit reviewer or architect may ask for fastener spacing and wind data; we provide engineering data on request.
