What Counts as a Corrugated Metal Wall Panel?

Two profile families. Classic corrugated is the rounded sine wave with ribs on a 2.67-inch pitch; the 7/8-inch-deep version is the industrial standard, and a shallower version covers lighter duty. Multi-purpose panels in the H-12 and H-16 style keep a 7/8-inch depth but space the ribs 4 inches on center across 12 or 16 inches of coverage, with a concealed fastening leg and lock.

In our line, that means the AMP 2.67 x .875 for deep industrial corrugated, the AMP 2.67 x 5 exposed-fastener panel for standard-duty walls, and the AMP Wave 16-4 and AMP Wave 12-3 for the concealed-fastener multi-purpose look. All four are roll-formed and cut to length for your wall, not bought in stock sheets.

How Is Corrugated Installed on a Wall?

Exposed-fastener installation: panels lap one corrugation and screw through the face into girts, hat-channel or sheathing with washer-head fasteners. It is fast, forgiving and easy to repair, which is why corrugated is the economical choice.

  1. Weather barrier over the sheathing or framing, lapped and sealed at every opening.
  2. Furring or girts to set the plane and create a drainage gap; on a barndominium the wall girts of the building frame do this job.
  3. Base trim, corner trim and J-channel at openings, bent in our shop in matching color.
  4. Panels set from one end with side laps facing away from the prevailing southerly wind, screws driven snug on the manufacturer’s pattern, never crushed.
  5. Closures and flashings at the top of the wall, at windows and doors and at the roof-to-wall line; see metal flashing.

A 7/8-inch corrugated wall on a 40-by-60 shop typically goes up in a few days once the trim is on site. Panels run full height on most walls, so there are no horizontal joints to seal.

Horizontal or Vertical?

Vertical is the default. Water runs down the corrugations, laps are simple and the panels run the full wall height without a horizontal joint. Horizontal corrugated is the modern-farmhouse look: it stretches a low building and reads as striped texture, but it needs end laps or a reveal trim at every panel joint and fasteners placed to the manufacturer’s pattern so the laps stay tight.

The multi-purpose H-12 and H-16 style panels are built for both directions, which is why they are the usual pick for a horizontal accent wall on a storefront or a modern home. On a tall wall we run vertical; on a long, low ranch house or a wainscot band we run horizontal.

Which Gauge and Finish Should You Choose?

Gauge

26 gauge is the value spec and the usual choice on a shop or barn wall. 24 gauge is roughly 28% thicker and is what we recommend for a house, a storefront or any wall at ground level where mowers, trailers and hail get a shot at it. 22 gauge goes on the 2.67 x .875 industrial panel for long girt spans and the hardest duty.

Finish

Kynar 500 PVDF holds its color under a Dallas summer UV index that routinely reaches 9 to 10, and it is the right call for dark and bright colors. SMP is fine for light colors on secondary walls; in side-by-side exposures it has shown visible fade at about eight years. Bare Galvalume mill finish gives the raw industrial look with no paint to chalk, and it is the least expensive of the three.

Modern Farmhouse, Barndominium or Commercial Accent Wall?

Homes

Corrugated is the texture that defines the modern-farmhouse and barndominium look across Kaufman, Rockwall and Ellis counties: a corrugated gable over board-and-batten, a wainscot band, or a full wall in charcoal or bare Galvalume. Want a smooth metal exterior with no ribs at all? Compare our seamless steel siding, formed on site to the length of each wall.

Commercial

Restaurants, breweries, gyms and retail centers use corrugated as an accent: a horizontal band at the entry, a drive-through wall, or a weathered-steel panel beside a glass storefront. It pairs with ACM signage bands and a standing seam roof in a matching color.

Shops and Warehouses

On a pre-engineered building the corrugated or PBR wall panel is the structure’s skin, spanning girts at 5 feet or more. That is where the deep 2.67 x .875 profile and 22-gauge steel earn their keep.

What Does Corrugated Cost Compared With Other Wall Panels?

Corrugated is typically the least expensive metal wall panel we install per square foot: a simple profile, fast exposed-fastener installation and no concealed clips or extrusions. The 2.67 x 5 in 26-gauge SMP is the entry point; 24-gauge Kynar adds a modest premium, and the concealed-fastener Wave panels and ACM sit above it.

Pricing depends on wall height, openings, trim count and whether furring is needed, so we quote from a site measure or plans rather than publishing a per-foot number. The estimate is free and itemized, and homeowners who want to compare it with a whole-house metal exterior can ask for a seamless siding price at the same visit.

How Does Corrugated Handle Texas Hail?

Well, for two reasons. A wall takes hail at a glancing angle rather than head-on, and the corrugation itself is stiffer than flat sheet and hides small dimples in its shadow lines. Texas has led the country in major hail events for 11 straight years, and the April 28, 2026 storm that dropped preliminary 4.5-inch stones in Johnson County marked plenty of roofs; vertical walls fared far better.

By gauge: 26 gauge can show dents from large hail on an exposed west wall; 24 gauge resists most of what DFW produces; 22 gauge rarely marks on a vertical surface. Dents on a wall are cosmetic and do not cause leaks, but read your policy, because many Texas carriers now attach cosmetic-damage exclusions to metal exteriors.

Corrugated vs the AMP 2.67 Profiles, 7.2 Rib and Corrugated Roofing

The 2.67 profiles are our corrugated panels. The AMP 7.2 Rib is the step up when you need a deeper, flat-bottomed rib that spans farther and works on the roof too.

Want the same corrugated look on the roof? Roof panels need a steeper minimum slope, sealed laps and a different fastener pattern; see corrugated and R-panel roofing. What Dallas-Fort Worth Homeowners Say About Architectural Metal Panels

Corrugated Wall Panel Questions

Can corrugated metal panels be installed horizontally?

Yes. Multi-purpose H-12 and H-16 style panels are made for it, and classic corrugated can run horizontal with sealed end laps or reveal trim at each joint and fasteners set to the manufacturer’s pattern. Vertical remains the simplest and best-draining layout.

Will corrugated siding rust?

Galvalume-coated steel resists red rust for decades, and a Kynar 500 or SMP paint system adds a second barrier. Cut edges weather to a dull gray rather than rusting through. Keep sprinklers off the wall and keep the panel bottoms clear of treated lumber and wet concrete.

What gauge should I use on a house?

24 gauge. It is roughly 28% thicker than 26 gauge, resists hail and everyday knocks at ground level, and oil-cans less on long walls. 26 gauge is fine on a shop or barn; 22 gauge is for industrial walls and long spans.

Is corrugated the cheapest metal wall panel?

Typically, yes. The simple profile and exposed-fastener installation make it the lowest-cost metal wall panel we install, and there is no repaint cycle. We quote from a site measure so you can compare it like for like with other panels or with seamless siding.

Do exposed fasteners leak on a wall?

Rarely. A wall sheds water instead of holding it, so screws see far less pressure than on a roof. The washers still age in UV, so plan a visual check every few years and replace any screw that has backed out or cracked its washer.

Can you put corrugated over existing siding or brick?

Usually, over furring strips with a weather barrier behind them. Furring flattens the old wall and gives the screws solid bite. Rotted wood siding comes off first; brick and block take hat-channel anchored into the masonry.

Do you supply corrugated panels for owner-builders?

Yes. We sell cut-to-length panels and matching trim for pickup in Forney or delivery, and on some projects we install panels you have already bought. Ask for both prices on the quote.
