Metal Roof Panel Prices for Materials Orders From Our Forney Shop
These metal roof panel prices are for materials made in our Forney shop: panels and trim for roofers, builders, and owners who already have a crew lined up. Start with the per-square-foot rates below, run the materials calculator, then send your takeoff for a written quote.
What Are the Starting Rates Right Now?
Two painted steel packages cover most roofs. Rates are per square foot of roof area and were last set in October 2026.
| Steel & finish | Starting rate | Usually chosen for |
|---|---|---|
| 24-gauge Galvalume, Kynar 500 (PVDF) | $9 per sq ft of roof | Homes, offices, dark colors, roofs meant to look sharp for decades |
| 26-gauge steel, SMP paint | $8 per sq ft of roof | Shops, sheds, outbuildings, light colors and tight budgets |
The rate is a starting point for painted steel roof materials. Your written quote spells out what the package includes for your roof.
Wall panels, ACM, custom trim, coping and copper or zinc are priced per project from the drawings, not from these rates.
Estimate a Materials Order
Enter the roof area and choose a steel and paint package. The calculator multiplies the area by the current starting rate, so it moves when the price list moves.

This is a budget figure for materials, not a quote. Your itemized quote confirms panel lengths, trim, finish and pickup or delivery. Prices as of October 2026.
Turn this into an itemized quote
Send this figure to the shop with your takeoff or roof plan, and we price every panel and trim piece in writing.

Treat the result as a budget number. The written quote built from your plans or takeoff is the figure to order from.
A Worked Example at the Starting Rates
Simple math shows the spread between the two packages. Picture a simple roof measuring 2,000 square feet.
- In 24-gauge Kynar 500 at the starting rate: about $18,000.
- In 26-gauge SMP at the starting rate: about $16,000.
The real number for that roof can sit above or below these figures. The next section explains what pushes it either way.
What Moves a Materials Quote Up or Down
Five things change the price more than anything else. Most of them show up on the plans before anyone calls the shop.
Panel profile
Concealed-clip standing seam uses more steel per square foot of coverage than an exposed-fastener panel. Mechanical seam for low slopes adds a taller rib and clips. R-panel and corrugated usually land at the low end. Compare them on the roof panels overview.
Gauge and paint
Heavier 24-gauge sheet costs more than 26-gauge, and Kynar 500 costs more than SMP. The upgrade buys dent resistance, a flatter pan and longer color life. The Kynar vs SMP and 24 vs 26 gauge articles explain both trade-offs.
Trim count
A simple gable needs ridge, rake and eave trim. A cut-up roof with hips, valleys, dormers, walls and chimneys needs far more pieces per square foot. Trim is often the biggest swing between two roofs of the same size.
Panel lengths
Long runs and many short panels both change the total. Short pieces around dormers and hips create offcuts, and the steel in an offcut is still paid for.
Natural metals: copper and zinc
Natural metals cost much more than painted steel and involve hand-soldered work. They are always quoted per project; see copper and zinc fabrication.
Which Items Are Quoted Per Project?
Some work has no fair per-square-foot price, because each piece is drawn and bent for one building.
- Metal wall panels and the seven AMP wall profiles
- ACM panels, routed and folded to the elevations
- Custom trim and flashing from the custom sheet metal shop
- Coping, gravel stop and fascia for commercial roof edges
- Copper and zinc pans, bay roofs, turrets, gutters and flashings
For these, send drawings or a sketch with dimensions. The quote lists each piece and its price.
Four Ways to Keep a Materials Order on Budget
Most savings come from decisions made before the order, not from haggling over the rate.
- Match the profile to the slope. A mechanical seam panel on a steep house roof adds cost without adding much. Snap-lock or an exposed-fastener panel may do the job.
- Pick the paint for the building. Kynar 500 earns its price on a home or a dark color. On a light-colored shop, SMP often makes more sense.
- Order panels and trim together. One order means one coil run, matched color and no second trip for a forgotten piece.
- Send a clean takeoff. Accurate lengths cut waste, and fewer re-cuts mean less steel paid for twice.
Not sure which choices fit your roof? Call the shop before you finalize the order, and we will talk through the options.
How to Get a Firm Price
A written quote replaces the starting rate once the shop has your numbers.
- Send the plans or a takeoff with roof planes, slopes and lengths.
- Name the profile, gauge, paint and color, or ask us to recommend them.
- List the trim, or let us count it from the plans.
- Say how the material should reach you: pickup at the shop or delivery to the job. Both are available, with no minimum order.
- Get the written quote, with the price, what it includes and the ship date we confirm with you.
Contractors who order regularly should also read the for contractors page. Details on paint maker warranties for each finish are on our warranties page.
Materials Pricing Questions
Are the rates on this page for materials only?
Yes. Every rate here covers panels and trim made in our Forney shop, priced as materials.
How current are these prices?
The price list was last updated in October 2026. Steel and paint costs shift during the year, which is why an order is always priced from a written quote.
Why does my quote differ from the calculator?
The calculator multiplies area by a starting rate. A real roof adds or saves trim, panel waste, profile changes and color choices that only show up on the plans.
Is 24-gauge Kynar worth paying more for than 26-gauge SMP?
On a home, a dark color or a roof that needs to look good for decades, usually yes. On a shop, a shed or a light color, 26-gauge SMP is often the sensible choice.
Can I get a price for wall panels or ACM by the square foot?
Those are quoted per project. Panel profile, trim at every opening and corner, and the elevations all change the price, so we price them from drawings.
How is trim priced on a roof order?
Trim is listed on the written quote with the panels it goes with. Its share of the total depends on how many edges, valleys and walls the roof has, which is why two roofs of the same size can price differently.
